Gerlach Streak Ends in Quarterfinals

Congratulations to 8th grader, Ellie Gerlach for finishing in the quarterfinals of the singles draw at the tennis State championship this past weekend.  Ellie, who was the #5 seed after winning the Region 7 title last week, finished with an impressive 19-3 season at #1 singles before losing Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals to Allie Westling (#3 seed) from Notre Dame.  "I know Ellie was very disappointed after the loss but she had a phenomenal year, is a wonderful young lady, a fierce competitor and, if she continues to work hard, has a great future ahead of her", said Coach Jeff Mallory.    

Because of her impressive year, Ellie was also selected to the All-State girls tennis team for Kentucky for the 2nd year in a row.

Round of 64:  Gerlach    defeated       Pineville #1      6-0, 6-1
Round of 32:  Gerlach   defeated        Greenwood #1      6-0, 6-0
Round of 16:  Gerlach   defeated        Beechwood #1      6-4, 6-1
Quarterfinals:Gerlach   lost to         Notre Dame #1     6-3, 6-2

(5/26/10)  On Monday night, Ellie was awarded the #5 seed for the upcoming KHSAA State Tennis Tournament. Ellie's game times are as follows as she advances through the tournament.

(5/20/10) Congratulations to 8th grader Ellie Gerlach for winning the Region 7 singles title Thursday by defeating the #1 seeded Emily Przystawski from Assumption 6-3, 6-4 in the finals.  This is Ellie's 2nd Region 7 title overall after winning the doubles title last season.  Ellie will now compete in the State tournament next week in Lexington.

Also congratulations to the Christian Academy girls varsity team for placing third  (out of 16 teams) in the Region 7 tournament trailing only Assumption and runner-up Sacred Heart in the final points standings.   

(5/18/10) Congratulations to  Ellie Gerlach (8th Grader) and Brett Johnson (Junior) for advancing to the Region 7 singles finals today by defeating opponents from Assumption and KCD respectively.   

This is the 6th year in a row that Christian Academy has had players in the finals of the Region 7 tournament.
