Christian Academy 3rd Annual Coat Drive to Warm the Homeless this Winter
The Christian Academy varsity football team is hosting the third annual “Hang a Coat from the Heart” coat drive this week, which culminates on Friday night, Oct. 14, at the 7:30 p.m. varsity football game.
The Christian Academy Centurions are partnering with their opponent that night, DeSales High School to help warm the homeless of Louisville by collecting 2,000 gently used coats for Wayside Christian Mission to benefit men, women and children. At this game, all donated coats will be displayed on the fence surrounding the football field, which creates a visually stunning representation of these students’ commitment to missions and spreading the love of Christ.
“Last year we were able to donate 1,500 coats, along with hats, gloves and scarves,” Lisa Gamble, missions coordinator, said. “This year we’re increasing our goal to 2,000 coats and we need the help of our school families, as well as our local community members.”
Anyone interested in donating new or gently used coats for men, women or children, as well as hats or gloves, may drop them off at the front office of Christian Academy English Station, 700 S. English Station Road. Donations will be accepted during the week, as well as at the varsity football game.
The new face of homelessness continues to include more families with children, as well as adults who work full time, but for much lower wages than earned in previous years. The heart of the Christian Academy School System is a commitment to teaching students practical application of Biblical principles in all initiatives, especially those impacting fellow families and children in need.
Founded in 1976, the Christian Academy School System holds a distinctive place among educational institutions in the Louisville and Southern Indiana area by providing high-quality, affordable Christian education for over 30 years. Today, the Christian Academy School System serves almost 3,000 students from Preschool - 12th Grade on four campuses in the Louisville and Southern Indiana area.
