(5/21/10) What an exciting state championship for the CAL Lacrosse Team!  Agressive play and impressive stick skills has helped CAL lead Manual 9-3.  However, a strong storm moved into the area forcing more than 1 hour of rain delays and finally forcing a continuation tomorrow - Saturday, May 22 at 6:00 pm at Trinity Field.

After only the second year as a CAL sport, the Centurions Lacrosse team wins semifinal game and heads to the state championship.

(Tuesday, May 18) Intensity was at a high level…..nerves were on edge….and that was just the parents!

The boys lacrosse team definitely came out with their game face on, and made history as the first CAL LAX team to advance to the state finals, defeating Male 12-4.  The Field was very slippery, and the teams traded a couple of possessions, testing each other’s defenses.

Zack Dannelly broke the ice with a fast break and a crank shot from well outside, 1-0 CAL!

After a few more turnovers, Hunter Jordan cleared the ball to David Heetderks who popped in #2.  Male answered back with a driving shot to the goal, 2-1.

After the face-off, Davis Church cut a tight half circle from behind the crease and made it 3-1.

CAL picked up steam as Landon Adkins cranked an outside shot for goal #4.

Dannelly completed first quarter scoring with a trademark fade-away shot, fed to him by Church: 5-1 CAL.

Male came back with a quick hockey-shot goal in the 2nd quarter: 5-2. Adkins fed Church for another goal that barely rolled over the line after the goalie deflected it.  At the next face off, Adkins fed Heetderks on a fast break for 7-2.

Alec Jarm forced Male to turnover, and Heetderks picked off a pass to keep Male from scoring again before half.

Starting the 2nd half, the physical intensity of the game was picking up.  Dannelly pounded a score in through a crowd, but the goal was nullified when he got knocked into the crease by a defender.  Matt DeVries crashed through 4 defenders up the middle to score CAL’s 8th, and the ensuing melee resulted in three Male players and one CAL player in the penalty box.

Franklin fed Church to make it 9-2.  Dannelly took it to 10 a few seconds later, as the 3rd quarter was ending.  Jarm led a fast break clear setting up Franklin feed to Dannelly: 11-2.

CAL began to breathe a bit easier, and more and more of the JV players got to share a taste of the victory on the field.  Male picked up two more goals on mandown situations in the 4th, and Adkins capped off the CAL scoring at 12.

Dannelly and Adkins both had 3 goals, Heetderks and Adkins 2 each, and one for DeVries.  Jordan, Shutt and Hodgson played a tight Defense, and Czerwonka stopped almost everything that got past them.

The CAL team was ecstatic with the victory, and gratefully prayed at midfield with the Male team.

The State Championship Game is Friday evening at 5:30 at Trinity stadium , with a rematch of our closest game of the year vs. Manual.

Come on out and support the team!
